New Medium Enterprises, Inc. (NME) presented its VMD technology at the Media-Tech Expo held at Long Beach, California on 15 – 17 May 2007 and was a sponsor of the event.

During Media-Tech's High Definition forum, NME's CTO, Dr. Eugene Levich highlighted the technological innovations associated with the high definition VMD format and its ease of integration within the existing OEM and optical disc manufacturing industry. The forum was an opportunity for the industry to appreciate NME's patented technological developments and increasing global popularity compared to other high definition formats.

Following NME's recent announcement to join forces with Optikeya Inc, an emerging leader in the anti-counterfeit industry, Optikeya's CEO, William Schroer gave a presentation held at the event on 16th May at 14.15 hrs. The presentation addressed the growing piracy issues within the entertainment industry and Copy protection for HD formats.

NME's high definition VMD is now seen as a serious 3rd generation challenger to HD-DVD and Blu-ray within the manufacturing industry and has already attracted an international network of trade partners supporting the format, including its recent signing with POD, the leading optical disc replicator in the Middle East (Dubai), and the Russia-based Bars Media Group. In 2008 Bars Media will launch a factory in the EU with 12 VMD production lines having a cycle time of less than 2.5 seconds for mastering, printing and packaging equipment.

Nicolas Lavrov, NME's Creative Director gave a presentation at the Media Pack Summit at the Media-Tech Expo, showcasing NME's competitively priced and unique disc packaging, also noted for its anti-theft protection feature.

Eugene Levich comments, "We are proud to present our elegant technology and discuss our innovative approach to the high definition market with the Mediatech audience. Mediatech has traditionally been committed to excellence and innovation in the optical storage industry". What you should know about HD VMD HD VMD (Versatile Multilayer Disc) is NME's proprietary High Definition disc format based upon established red laser technology enabling seamless and cost effective manufacturing solutions for High Definition products based on existing DVD industrial infrastructure.

NME's patented 2P process succeeded in solving the technological problems which have limited DVD's to two information layers (DVD9). Thus, multilayering is now possible with HD VMD's commercial solution of 20 GB storage capacity for single sided discs (i.e. 4 layers of 5 GB each). HD VMD has also proven to achieve 24, 30, 40 and 48 GB capacity with the NME 2P process method. The NME 2P process is also applicable for manufacturing multilayer blue laser discs.

The HD VMD (disc) has a capacity to playback a full three hours of true 1080p High Definition material on one single side. The HD VMD (player) is also backward compatible and supports all existing DVD discs formats and CD, in addition to allowing consumers to play their existing standard-definition DVD collections up-converted to HD.

HD VMD is currently being adopted by content providers and distributors in 12 regions worldwide, including Brazil, Central Europe, China, France, Germany, Iceland, Japan, Scandinavia, Middle East, Russia and the United States.

HD VMD prices is very close to DVD current pricing and costs and is considered a serious challenger as it provides access to High Definition at a much lower cost than Blu-ray and HD-DVD drives and discs.
